Gabriel Alvarado enter his freshman year at the University of Memphis and his first season as a manager for the Tiger volleyball program.

A 2007 graduate of Collierville High School, Alvarado served as the student manager for the Dragon's volleyball team from 2005-07.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alvarado played club volleyball in P.R. for Borinquen Coqui. He was a two-time member of the Puerto Rican Junior Olympic squad that competed in the national tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. in 2001 and 2003. As the primary setter, Alvarado guided his U-12 squad to a Bronze medal finish in 2001. He helped his U-14 team to a Gold medal as both a setter and a defensive specialist in 2003.

Alvarado is the son of Nancy Rivera and Charlie Alvarado. He has five siblings- four brothers and one sister.
