TULSA, Okla. - The University of Memphis will close out its regular season with a three-game league series at Tulsa on Saturday and Sunday.
The Tigers (24-26, 4-15) will play a doubleheader with the Golden Hurricane (31-22, 11-10) on Saturday at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams will then close out the series on Sunday with a single game at noon.
Memphis is 1-6 all-time against Tulsa and has yet to win a contest during the regular season. The lone win for the U of M came in the opening game of the 2007 C-USA Championships with Memphis scoring two runs in the seventh inning of a 2-1 victory. The winning run came on a suicide squeeze. Both teams threw a one-hitter in the game.
Tulsa has out-scored Memphis 47-14 in the all-time series that first began in 2006 at Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane has scored eight runs or more in four of the seven games.
Memphis enters the series having lost its last five games and its last seven of eight conference contests. After having leads of four and five runs to open both games of a doubleheader against East Carolina, Memphis could not hold on as the Pirates came back to win both contests. The second game was the first time this season in 15 opportunities Memphis had scored six or more runs and lost. The third game of the series was canceled due to inclement weather.
Juniors Leila Dolfo and Tori Gross lead the Memphis active roster in batting. Dolfo is hitting .311 with 11 home runs, 11 doubles and 34 RBI. Gross continues to be an offensive threat for the Tigers and is hitting with a .298 average, four home runs, seven doubles and 18 RBI. Freshman Maddie McKinley has been one of the U of M's top hitters in conference play and is hitting .273 on the year with three home runs and 11 RBI.
Memphis is third in the conference with 45 home runs after hitting five in the doubleheader with ECU. As a team, the Tigers are hitting .256 with a .412 slugging percentage.
Tulsa has won seven of its last 10 games and has split its last eight conference games against Marshall, Houston and UAB. Freshman Jordan Kinard is the reigning conference pitcher of the week after throwing an eight-inning no-hitter against Missouri State and tallying 28 strikeouts on the week in 28 innings.
The Golden Hurricane is third in the conference standings and third in the league with a RPI ranking 45th. Sophomore Lauren Lindsay leads the nation with 21 doubles and is one of only four players nationally to post over 20 on the season. Senior Sara Dyer became Tulsa's all-time career hit leader against Texas-Arlington in April. She is one of the 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
The Hurricane were picked to finish fourth in the league preseason poll after finishing third last season with a 30-28 overall record and 13-10 during C-USA play.

After the Tulsa three-game series, the Tigers will compete in the Conference USA Championships beginning on Thursday, May 8, in Houston. Memphis will compete in the play in game as the No. 9 seed against the No. 8 seed to open the tournament at 9 a.m. The winner will play No. 1 Houston at 5:30 p.m.
